Hey all – I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted and of course I’ve been super busy. Today was 80 mini cupcakes for the dessert buffet at the  Ella Baker Center for Human Rights dinner and 4th Annual Ella Awards tonight. This is how they describe themselves: “The Ella Baker Center is named for an unsung hero of the civil rights movement who inspired and guided emerging leaders. We build on her legacy by giving people opportunities and skills to work together to strengthen our communities so that all of us can thrive.” They have several campaigns around the youth justice/prison system, green jobs, others focused on strengthening Oakland and California (like opposing Prop 23!). Yes, they’re awesome! I’d encourage you to go to the event, but it’s sold out! Instead, you can support the awesome work of the Center here. There’s an alternate photo here.

It seems like I’m just making tons of mini cupcakes lately – here are lemon and chocolate mini cupcakes for Reiko to taste for her upcoming wedding. Mini cupcakes are perfect for parties because they’re finger food-sized and your guests can try a variety of flavors. But nothing really beats a full-sized cupcake for the decorating options – there’s so much you can do. I’d really love to do a Halloween themed batch this year.

And I’m very excited that it’s both pumpkin and apple season – Jonathan apples are my favorite pie apple and I just started seeing them come into the market. So far I’ve resisted, but perhaps this weekend will be a fancy pie or crisp.
