A Cupcake Sampler
I do make a lot of cakes for wedding and other parties. When someone is ordering a large cake, they really want to be able to taste a bunch of flavors ahead of time so they can decide.
A great way to do this sampling is with cupcakes. I made a series of flavors on Friday for Vanessa and her mom Maureen. Pictured above are lemon, chocolate, and chocolate raspberry, all topped with vanilla buttercream. I also made a chocolate mint and a vanilla raspberry that didn’t make it into the shot.
I’ve done two tastings recently, and have been surprised at how popular the chocolate mint has been – I guess I don’t think of it as a standard wedding flavor. Other cake flavors that I’ve made for people include vanilla and chocolate versions of coconut, almond, and orange.
This style of decorating the top (shown below, as opposed to piping, shown here), uses a lot more icing (which some people like), and looks great with a small piece of fruit, piped flower, or piece of candy added on the top.
