These cupcakes were a joint experiment with my friend Brian. They are vegan and are flavored with galangal (similar to ginger), kaffir lime leaf, and chili powder. The flavor was subtle yet distinct, and they were a hit at the Bitch Magazine party!

  1. The thai cupcakes are AMAZING! I was both skeptical and titillated at first by the concept of chili powder on my cupcakes, but the spiciness didn’t overpower the sweet, gingery/limey flavor of the cupcake — on the contrary, it just added an extra tang to enhance the overall experience. I am a huge fan of Angel Cakes but these, well, these might take the cake. 🙂

  2. I’m a weenie with spice, so I didn’t even plan on trying these on the (false) assumption they were going to be too much for me to handle. But I gave in – and they were awesome. It was a flavor combo that I would never have thought of in a cupcake – but it worked really well. Still a very sweet taste, with a cool kick!

  3. well geez, you get a billion points for the idea of these alone. i think it’s safe to say these were the hit of the party — people couldn’t stop gushing over them.

  4. like meredith, i was skeptical ant titillated at first (titilleptical), but…i really just referenced meredith so i could write the word titilleptical.

but i do have one thing to say: the only thing that is better than these cupcakes is….nothing. NOTHING IS BETTER THAN THESE CUPCAKES.

im a chocolate guy myself, and just a week ago if you told me i would be saying some other cupcake is better than chocolate, id say you were nuts. turns out the nuanced flavor of this cupcake is as fun to eat as it is delicious. huge points for this.

  5. oops i meant to say “and” not “ant”….i also meant to write a coherent first sentence….

  6. Coming soon….chocolate mole cupcakes…

  7. No skepticism here, I was with you 110% from the beginning. And the crazy thing is that the results were even better than I had imagined.
