This birthday cake was for friend Sarah, who requested a chocolate & rose flavored cake – complete here with vanilla buttercream icing (in purple, Sarah’s favorite color), and chocolate sprinkles. I know, it sounds weird, but ever since I did it last time, it is now on people’s radar, and it’s really popular.
Anyway, Sarah is a tireless organizer with Unite Here local 2850. Right now the union is representing workers at the Castlewood Country Club in Pleasanton, California – management has locked out the workers (prevented them from working) for almost 60 days because of stalled contract negotiations. A local paper summarized the issues this way: “According to union representatives, management wanted employees to contribute $739 a month for health care. But the union’s bargaining team declined the proposal, saying the amount was 40 percent of workers’ paychecks. Union representatives said they offered a counterproposal of $225 a month for health care plus additional concessions such as a wage freeze. “
You can read more about the issue at the workers’ website, and you can tell the country club management what you think about the situation by calling Club General Manager Jerry Olson at 925-485-2232 and Board President Jim Clouser at 925-837-8969.
